Rajbiraj, June 30:

Five persons were injured after an armed gang opened fire at Maleth village development committee in Saptari last night. Locals retaliated and captured three members of the gang — Sushil Shah, of Piprahapurva, Birendra Shah and Lalaku Sardar, of Ghoghanpur — and handed them over to the police.

The locals beat Sushil, injuring him critically. He was taken to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for treatment, police said. Two natives of Maleth, Ram Narayan Mandal and Bramhadev Yadav, were also injured while resisting the gang. They are undergoing treatment in Kanchanpur Primary Health Post, police inspector Bidhyananda Majhi said.
