KATHMANDU, MAY 9

Five Sherpa siblings from Sangkhuwasabha today scaled the world's fifth highest mountain, according to expedition organiser.

Pemba Sherpa, Chairman at 8K Expeditions, said that four brothers and one sister from a family reached the summit point of Mount Makalu at around 8:00am.

The Sherpa Siblings include Ang Dawa Sherpa, Muktu Lakpa Sherpa, Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, Pechumbe Sherpa, and their sister Pasang Yangi Sherpa.

Along with them, Anima Sherpa, daughter of Muktu Lakpa as well as Francois J. Mendriks from Belgium and Iryana Karagan from Ukraine also stood atop the mountain, according to Sherpa.

"Ang Dawa Sherpa is a member of Seven Summit Treks, while the rest are from 8K Expeditions," he added.

Earlier, the Guinness Book of Records has recognized their summit on K2 by awarding a certificate to Muktu, Ang Dawa, Ngima Dorchi, and Pechhumbe for their amazing climb in the world's second highest peak.

Being part of the SST K2 expedition led by expedition director Chhang Dawa Sherpa, the four siblings had scaled K2 together on 27 July, 2023.
