KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 11
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has resumed regular operations today. According to TIA General Manager Hansharaj Pandey, both domestic and international flights recommenced on Wednesday evening (September 10).
The TIA Management Office, in coordination with security forces, has facilitated passenger movement. However, the airport is currently unable to increase the number of regular flights.
In view of the ongoing prohibitory order in the Kathmandu Valley, passengers are required to carry valid identification while traveling to the airport. To support tourists and visitors, the Nepal Tourism Board has arranged shuttle bus services to transport them to their respective destinations.
Dipendra Kumar Karna, Information Officer at Buddha Air, confirmed that flights have been fully normalized since this morning. Airlines have also been instructed to prioritize passengers who had been stranded both at TIA and in other locations.
The airport was shut down on September 9 following disruptions caused by the Gen Z demonstrations. A meeting of the TIA Security Board on Wednesday decided to resume operations starting at 3:30 PM the same day.
Passengers are advised to confirm their flight status with respective airlines before heading to the airport.
Typically, TIA operates daily from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM. On the domestic front, 21 airlines-including 12 helicopter operators-conduct more than 250 flights per day. Internationally, 30 airlines, including three Nepali carriers, operate around 100 flights daily from the airport.
