Vehicular movement halted as landslides and debris worsen situation

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 1

A major flood triggered by continuous rainfall has blocked the Burtibang–Rukum East section of the Mid-Hill (Pushpalal) Highway in Nisikhola Rural Municipality-4, Baglung.

The flood, which originated from the Kalapaira Khola on Sunday night, has left vehicles traveling between Rukum East, Rolpa, Kathmandu, and Pokhara stranded at multiple points, according to ward chair Tikanidhi Paudel.

Authorities, along with highway management teams, are working to reopen the road partially. However, landslides, fallen trees, and recurring debris flows have made restoration efforts difficult.

"This is the worst flood we have experienced here," said Paudel. "We are trying to clear at least one lane, but it will take time to fully restore traffic."

All rural roads in Nisikhola have also been disrupted due to rain-induced landslides.
