FNJ calls for professionalism

On the occasion of Press Independence Day (PID), Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), which has been dedicated in implementing the values of press independence in Nepal, extends its best wishes to all Nepalis and foreign friends who are involved in journalism.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of PID 2002, UNESCO has declared “Journalism and Terrorism” as its main slogan, stating that at a time when the world was badly affected with terrorism, Nepal is also not free from its affects. There is no doubt the rights of Nepali journalism here has been curtailed to a remarkable degree due to terrorism. However, FNJ is eagerly protecting and preserving the fundamental rights of the Nepali journalists.

Further, FNJ assures the journalist friends that it is always dedicated for welfare and betterment of the journalists. Even though Nepali journalists have been deprived of their fundamental rights to publish the news freely, it is always dedicated in restoring their press independency by continuing its movement.

In a press release issued by FNJ here today it stated that in the name of emergency Nepali Journalists have been held by the security personnel regularly and FNJ has taken this as a bitter experience. As a result, in the behalf of civil society FNJ appeals the government to create favourable circumstances so that the people would live freely as far as possible.

So on the occasion of PID, FNJ expresses its commitment to go ahead in preserving press independence, developing professional journalism along with struggling for physical and job security as well.

In a separated press release, Reporters Club Nepal states, after the state of emergency was imposed in the country, the fundamental rights of press have been squeezed. It has further stated that the journalists have taken the curbing of the rights as a obvious task during the government’s missions to control terrorism in the nation. It has also stated that the reporters are not feeling secured during the days. The reporters club has urged the government to create the peaceful environment in the nation and stop unnecessary hassles to the reporters on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day.
