FNJ’s protest enters second phase today
Kathmandu, December 19:
Federation of Nepali Journalists has decided to take their protest over the killing of journalist Uma Singh into the second phase starting tomorrow.
Demanding punishment for the guilty, ending the state of impunity and guarantee of press freedom, the FNJ will be organising various protest programmes.
The journalists’ body also asked newspapers to carry the slogan “Take action against Uma’s
murderers. End impunity.” on the front page and other media as well to carry the message.
A statement issued here today said the government had been unsuccessful in punishing those guilty of the murder and making the reality public, leaving the treats to journalists across the country relentless. The journalists’ apex body said it was compelled to carry on with protests until their demands were met.
The protest programmes include signature campaign, presenting pen to the government through local administration and a mass gathering of journalists on January 27 to mark the end of the protest.

KATHMANDU: FNJ stated that their attention had been drawn to the threat given by Madan Limbu, deputy commander of Limbuwan Volunteer affiliated with Federal Limbuwan State Council, to Kokila Dhakal, a journalist working for Ilam-based Kanchenjunga FM and local reporter for the Rajdhani Daily.
Dhakal had written news on the levying of taxes on items transported from Ilam by Limbuwan Volunteer. Condemning the threat, the FNJ said it was of the view that the matters are best sorted through talks.
