Folk wail for kin in Lebanon
Ilam, July 28:
Kith and kin of Nepali women who are in Lebanon seeking work, are worried about their condition in the war-torn country.
Among those who went to Lebanon from Ilam are Bonita Rai, Kalpana Rai, Asha Rai, Milan Kala Rai, Tara Rai and Sangeeta Rai. The family members of these women said that they tried to telephone them from the district headquarters as soon as they heard of the Israeli attacks on Lebanon but were unable to contact them. Surendra Kumar Rai of Maimajhuwa VDC in Ilam said though he succeeded in contacting his daughter Asha, who went to Lebanon two years ago, he was worried her reaching home safely. He added that Asha had told him she was safe though she kept hearing sounds of explosions outside. Pabina Rai and Lekh Nath Rai of Maimajhuwa said they tried to contact their sisters in Lebanon but were unable to do so. They urged the government to take initiatives for the safe return of Nepali workers in Lebanon.
So far 51 Nepalis have left Lebanon safely with the assistance of the Indian government. Most of them have reached their homes. Those yet to reach home have come in contact with their families. So far, there is no Nepali casualty there.
