Forces rescue 60 abductees

Security forces today tracked 60 residents of Salu VDC-8, whom the Maoists had abducted in the morning, at Kukurkate Bhanjyang and freed them, a district-based security source said, adding that the Maoists fled the scene as they saw the forces coming.

The Maoists had abducted 60 locals, including Lilanath Adhikari, health workers Ramchandra Raya, Minbahadur Ta-mang and Dipak Basnet, an employee of the Nepal Electricity Authority. Security personnel of the Narayandal Battalion were involved in the operation.

10 labour recruiters freed

Birgunj: Maoists on Tuesday freed 10 contractors, who used to supply labourers to industrial houses, on the condition that they will stop supplying labourers in the future. The Maoists had abducted the contractors on Sunday.

According to the Maoists, the abductees were released in the presence of rights activists and journalists. The released were identified as Jagadish Shah, Harishanker Thakur, Anil Thakur, Dipak Nepal, Dipak Thakur, Gyanendra Dhakal, Navin Yadav, Sunil Puri, Prem Shrestha and Gajendra Chaudhar. — HNS
