‘Foreign meddling unbecoming’

Jhapa, April 5

CPN-UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang today said that it was unbecoming of foreign powers and countries to comment and press for amendment to Nepal’s constitution unnecessarily.

Speaking at his party’s programme organised in Bhadrapur, Jhapa, Nembang said, “Since Nepal’s new statute has enough room to correct flaws, it is totally wrong on the part of foreign powers and countries to air comments on Nepal’s constitution.”

Stating that Nepal’s new statute was approved and signed by 90 per cent of Constituent Assembly members, Nembang claimed that it was the most excellent document in the world.

Nembang dared foreign countries to prove any article and clause mentioned in the constitution discriminatory. He reiterated that the statute was excellent and the most inclusive document in the world.

On Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s China sojourn, Nembang held that agreements signed with the northern neighbour during Oli’s visit had made Nepal a land-locked country. “Till date, Nepal was India-locked.

Nepal has now become land-locked after China allowed us access to the sea,” he added. He stressed that Nepal should adopt equi-distant relations with both China and India.

He asked India to maintain friendly and cordial relations with Nepal.

Nembang stated that around 2,700 Indian girls married to Nepali nationals had acquired citizenship certificates in the six months after promulgation of the new statute.
