Foreign Minister Gyawali-envisioned musical drama staged at Rastriya Naach Ghar

KATHMANDU: A musical political drama 'Nepal Gatha', written by Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, was staged at Rastriya Naach Ghar on Monday. The drama is co-written by Devi Nepal.

The musical drama focuses on the history of Nepal from centuries ago and through many generations. Directed by Birendra Hamal, the musical shows the major political transitions and historical milestones in the country. Asok Rai has provided his music to the drama, which is representative of the country's geographical and cultural variety.

The drama portrays Nepal's history from the time of Buddha to the country's most recent political transition to a federal democratic republic. It is also reflective of all the other eras in between from Kirat, Lichchhavi, Malla and Shah dynasties including the Rana regime.

It depicts the establishment of democracy in the country in 2007 BS marking the end of the Rana regime and takes the audience through the various landmark elections in the country. Likewise, it shows the establishment of multi-party democracy and the more recent people's war. The drama has clipped together historical events that have led the nation to where it is today.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli along with other high-level government officials were part of the audience.
