Former deputy prime minister Adhikari accorded civic felicitation

Biratnagar, November 17

Communist leader and former deputy prime minister and finance minister Bharatmohan Adhikari received civic felicitation in Biratnagar today.

Province 1 Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai offered a garland, shawl and a cap to Adhikari, while the chief guest of the programme Province Chief Prof Govind Tumbahang offered him a civic felicitation letter.

Civic Felicitation Ceremony Committee led by Bhesh Bahadur Dhamala had thus organised the felicitation for the octogenarian communist leader, who has retired from politics.

Adhikari was addressed as the glory of Biratnagar.

Born in Mahottari, Adhikari had studied and started his politics from Biratnagar. He became finance minister in Manamohan Bhattarai-led government about 24 years ago. He was elected as a member of the Parliament thrice from Morang.

The concept of old age allowance to senior citizens and popular village-centric programmes are ascribed to him.

Various speakers who spoke on the occasion today dwelt on Adhikari’s political and social life.

“I’ve known him as a committed leader and am impressed by him,” said the Province Chief Tumbahang.

On his part, CM Rai described Adhikari as a great source of inspiration for all. “I’ve known him for long and had the opportunity to be guided by him at times,” he observed.

Biratnagar Metropolitan City Mayor Bhim Parajuli and others present at the ceremony noted Adhikari’s contribution to Nepali politics and his image as a true leader of the country.
