Surkhet, April 26:
Fourteen persons, including former minister and Nepali Congress central member Purna Bahadur Khadka, have been charged with murder of CPN-UML constituent assembly candidate from Surkhet-1 Rishi Prasad Sharma who was killed two days before the April 10 constituent assembly election.
A case was lodged in the district police office by Sharma’s brother charging the 14, including Khadka, Lal Bahadur Ghale, Motilal BK, Keshar bahadur Khadka, Hasta Bahadur Pun, Bhupendra Bahadur Pun and Lal Bahadur Khatri and 100 unidentified persons, with Sharma’s murder.
Sharma was shot dead while he was heading to Mehelkuna from Jahrey after blocking his jeep at Lodey.
BK was Sharma’s bodyguard. The complaint said BK did nothing to save Sharma’s life when the assalaints pelted stones at his jeep and opened fire at him.
SP Ram Kumar Khanal said investigation was on and BK had been taken into police custody for interrogation.
Also today, UML district secretary Navraj Raut called authorities for immediate action against the accused. At a press meet here today he said while some NC leaders and cadres were involved in the murder, the NC as a party had no hand in it.
The district UML also demanded the probe committee led by assistant attorney general Drona Raj Regmi be disbanded and a new one formed. It added that it did not trust the Regmi Commission’s impartiality.
Sharma’s widow, who later won the election from the constituency after the party fielded her there, Kamala Devi said she would raise the issue during the first sitting of the constituent assembly.
Former minister Khadka claimed he had been wrongly implicated in the case and described the case against him as a bid to assassinate his character.
