Former PM Giri cremated at Pashupati electric crematorium

KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and senior politician Tulsi Giri was cremated at the electric crematorium at Pashupati Aryaghat premises on Wednesday.

Saraha Giri, wife of Giri, said that the former PM's last rites were not performed with state honour as per his wish.

Although last rites of Giri were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat, other rituals in his name would not be undertaken, according to a family source.

Former Deputy Prime Ministers -- Bhim Rawal and Kamal Thapa, Nepali Congress central committee member Pradeep Giri, former minister Sunil Bahadur Thapa, among other leaders reached Pashupati Aryaghat to pay their last respects to late Giri.

Giri is the first former Prime Minister to be cremated at the electric crematorium, according to Pashupati Area Development Trust.

Giri who suffered from liver cancer passed away on Tuesday at the age of 93.
