KATHMANDU, JUNE 13

Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Air India plane crash inAhmedabad, Gujarat, India, which claimed 241 lives on Thursday.

In a post on social media, Bhandari said she was heartbroken by the loss of lives, including that of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who had warmly welcomed her during an official visit to India while she was President.

She paid tribute to Rupani, the students of BJ Medical College, local residents, passengers, and crew members who perished in the crash of Air India flight AI-171, which was en route to London from Ahmedabad.

Offering condolences to the bereaved families, she also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
