KATHMANDU, JULY 16

The foundation stone for the construction of the Arun Multipurpose Foundation Building in Arun Rural Municipality, Bhojpur, was laid on Tuesday.

The stone was laid amid a joint ceremony by Shalikram Khatri, Chairman of Arun Rural Municipality, and Avinash Kumar Singh, Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. The event was attended by political representatives, local officials, and social workers.

The project is being constructed with financial assistance from the Government of India at a cost of Rs 31.88 million under the 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation' initiative. The three-storey building will include classrooms, a teachers' room, a meeting room, a program hall, separate toilets for boys and girls, and other supporting facilities. It is being developed as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) and will be implemented through Arun Rural Municipality.

Local representatives expressed their gratitude to the Indian government for its continued developmental support in Nepal. They highlighted the building's potential to enhance educational and cultural infrastructure in the region.

Since 2003, the Government of India has taken up over 570 HICDPs in Nepal in various sectors. Amongst these, 93 projects are in Koshi Province. In addition to these, the Government of India has gifted 1049 ambulances and 300 school buses to various hospitals, health posts and educational institutions in Nepal. Amongst these, 7 ambulances and 1 school bus have been gifted in Bhojpur, according to the press release issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

As close neighbours, India and Nepal share wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued support of the Government of India in bolstering the efforts of the Government of Nepal in empowerment of its people and augmenting infrastructure in priority sectors, the embassy said.
