Foundation stone laid

Kathmandu, October 23:

Ambassador of India to Nepal Shiv Shanker Mukharjee laid the foundation stone for improvement of Storm Water Drainage System in the Lazimpat-Samakhushi Ranibari area at a function here on Monday.

The government of India had sanctioned assistance worth Rs 13.6 million to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) for the improvement of the system.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on October 5, 2004, between the government of India and the government of Nepal on the matter. The project is being implemented by the KMC. An Oversight Committee consisting of the Section Chief of the KMC, the Attache and an engineer of the Embassy of India, has been constituted to oversee the project.

A users committee consisting of residents of Samakhushi area has also been constituted. An agreement between the users committee and KMC was signed on August 8, 2006, for the execution of the work in the Samakhushi area.
