Four dead in Pokhara mudslide
POKHARA: At least four persons died and one went missing after a mudslide fell upon them in Pokhara Metropolitan City-20 of Kaski district today morning.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Dan Bahadur Karki, chief of Kaski District Police Office (DPO), Toban Basnet, Bij Bahadur Basnet, Jogendra Budhathoki, Khimlal Oli and Ganesh Oli, all from Pedikhola, Bagchaur Municipality-4 of Salyan district were buried under the mudslide.
However, the identities of the deceased are not clear yet, added SP Karki.
Seven workers were constructing sewage channels alongside the Bhalam-Mauja rural road section at Mauja when a mudslide from above the road fell over them at around 7:30 am, burying five of them. Two of the workers were successful in escaping the mudslide.
A search and rescue operation is being carried out by a joint team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force to rescue the missing person.
