Four fleeing jailbirds held, nine still missing


MAHENDRANAGAR: The police have arrested four prisoners out of 13 jailbirds who had escaped from District Prison Kanchanpur on Monday.

Overpowering the sentry, the 13 prisoners had made away with weapons at 6:15 pm on the day of Tika. They had escaped while they were being taken roll calls. The Kanchanpur police also said that the jailbirds had taken a 303 rifle but a source claimed that they had made away two revolvers too.

The police, however, have arrested Prakash Chanda from Bramhadev in Bhimdutta municipality 9 on Tuesday night while Kamal Chaudhary alias Danger, Ram Bahadur Chanda and Karan Nath were arrested on Monday night. Kamal Chaudhary, the mastermind of the incident, was arrested from traffic chowk in Mahendranagar by the ward police there. While, Chanda and Nath were arrested from Mataina of Bhimdutta-9. However, Raghubir Chanda, Ganesh Mahata, Dipendra Bhandari, Dhanbahadur Rana aka Abiral, Ugrasen Rana, Khem Budha, Chhatrapati Rana, Uttam Rana and Genash Dhami are still at large.

After the incident,the prison in-charge Bhim Bahadur Bam and seven security personnel deputed for the security have been suspended from duty.

Meanwhile, SP Madhav Nepal said a large numbers of security personnel were deployed for carrying out search to track down the missing prisoners.
