Four killed, 38 injured in mishaps

Mahendranagar, November 13:

One person was killed and eight persons were injured when a KIA vehicle and a truck collided at Banara jungle of Jhalari-9 in Attariya-Mahendranagar sector of Mahendra Highway today. Chandra Bahadur Thapa, 24, of Mahendranagar-18 was killed when the KIA vehicle and the truck collided this morning.

Santosh Adhikari, Dropati Airi, Durgadutt Bhatt, Khagendra Bhatt, Kishan Joshi, Gajendra Airi, Pashupati Airi and Mohan Thapa were injured, the police said, adding, the injured have been taken to India for treatment.

Meanwhile, locals protes-tting the killing of Thapa obstructed Attariya-Mahendranagar section of Mahendra Highway. A report from Rautahat said a girl child and 30 passengers were wounded when a passenger bus met with an accident on the east west Highway in Rautahat’s Chandranigahpur VDC last night.

The bus belonging to Super Munal Bus was heading from Kankarbhitta to Kathmandu, when it met with the accident near Chandikhola in Chandranigahpur VDC - 5 at 01:30 am. Ten-year-old Mamata Mainali of Jhapa Surunga died on the spot in the accident, said the police.

Thirty other passengers were wounded when it fell 15 meters down the road. Eleven of them were sent to Narayani sub-regional hospital Birgunj for treatment. The other passengers were undergoing treatment in Chandranigahpur, said area police office Chapur. Police inspector Naresh Raj Subedi said the accident was caused by over speeding of the bus and added search is on for the absconded bus driver.

A report from Kapilvastu said two children were killed in separate road accidents in Bahadurgunj of Krishnanagar, Chandrauta, today. Jyoti Sukla, 9, of Bahadurgunj VDC-2 died on the spot when a truck hit him and Altaf Miya, 12, of Balarampur Pachapedawa of India died in Shivaraj Hospital, Bahadurgunj, after he was hit by a jeep, said police inspector Dharma Bahadur Sunar of Area Police Office, Chandrauta. The jeep is at police post of Bahadurgunj and the truck is in the Area Police Office, Chandrauta, Bijaya Gupta, a local, said.
