Four passengers injured in Dhading landslide hit, jeep buried

DHADING: At least four persons trying to evade the landslide-hit sustained injuries while a jeep they were aboard buried under a pile of debris in Jogimara area of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-10 in Dhading district along the Prithvi Highway last night.

The jeep heading towards Muglin from Kathmandu, came under the debris, injuring four of the passengers aboard the vehicle, at tikarang at around 1:30 am today, according to the Jogimara-based Police Post. The passengers were injured while they tried to evade the mudslide.

It is yet to be established the identity of the injured and number plate of the jeep buried under the boulders, said police.

The injured were rushed to the Malekhu-based Highway Community Hospital for treatment last night.

Thousands of passengers and commuters were stranded until one-way vehicular movement was resumed after clearing part of the debris using an excavator, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dipendra Panjiyar Tharu said.

Meanwhile, the effort is on to recover the four-wheeler buried under the boulders, said police.

Boulders and debris have been slipping off the hill, covering the road following the landslide since last night due to the incessant rain.

Landslide hit the area following the rain as the mine for extracting stones and boulders above the road, is in operation.
