Fourteen-year-old dies in police custody
Dolakha, September 8
A 14-year-old boy, Ravi KC of Bhojpur, died in the custody of Dolakha District Police Office last evening. He was arrested on the charge of theft.
Ravi was admitted to Charikot Hospital after he fell ill. Inspector Ramesh Pradhan said Ravi breathed his last while being rushed to the hospital in Kathmandu for treatment after he could not be treated at Charikot.
Ravi had been in the police custody for four days and was taken to Charikot Hospital by police and his relatives after he complained of stomach ache yesterday morning. He was referred to Kathmandu, as he required immediate surgery of his intestine.
Bhimeswor Municipality executive member Rupa Bhujel urged CDO Laxman Bikram Thapa to take action against the guilty police personnel for illegally keeping the minor in custody for a long time.
Ravi’s kin have filed a case at the DAO, alleging police negligence.
Ravi’s maternal uncle, Pradip Karki, in whose house Ravi had been before he was arrested for theft, has demanded a probe into his death, accusing the police of illegally keeping a minor in their custody. He claimed that Ravi was mentally disturbed and that the police should not have arrested him.
CDO Thapa said the incident would be probed and action would be taken against guilty cops.
The body has been kept at Charikot Hospital.
