Fraud sells land put up as collateral for loan
Nawalparasi, September 5
It has been revealed that land put up as a collateral for loan has been sold in a fraudulent manner in the district.
Man Kumari Mahato from Kawasoti had kept three katthas of land as collateral and borrowed one lakh rupees from Binod Thapa of Kathmandu. Similarly, Mahato’s neighbours Sher Bahadur Dhami and Bhupendra Mahato each had put up five katthas of land as collateral and borrowed Rs 2.5 and one lakh respectively from Thapa.
Two months ago, neighbour Bijay Kumari Tharuni had mediated on behalf of Mahato duo and Dhami for loan with Thapa. All three had taken the loan on condition to repay it with interest within two years about one-and-a-half months ago. Land plots kept as collateral belonging to Sher Bahadur, Bhupendra and Man Kumari were transferred in the name of Binod Thapa from Land Revenue Office, Kawasoti, on July 16. Last Thursday, it was disclosed that Thapa had sold out the plots in the name of Balram Thapa of Kawasoti-2 to Khim Bahadur Pun, 26 from Baglung Dudilabhari VDC for Rs 42,10,000.
Khagendra Raj Ghimire, chief at the Land Revenue Office, Kawasoti, claimed that his office transferred the plots as they were told that the seller had received the money for the land.
DSP Parsuram Tiwari at the Area Police Office Kawasoti said that his office had received the information that land plots were passed by trick. DSP Tiwari said they would investigate the matter.
