KATHMANDU, JANUARY 21

Normal life in Madhes Province has been significantly impacted by the biting cold over the past three weeks, especially in the districts of Eastern Terai, including Mahottari.

Locals report that livestock is suffering due to the freezing temperatures, harsh winds, and thick fog.

Both urban and rural areas in the district are experiencing a decrease in people's mobility. Business owners note an increase in the sale of thick woolen clothes as the weather takes a dip.

Medical practitioners have observed a surge in patients with colds, coughs, asthma, and other related ailments at district hospitals and health facilities. Particularly vulnerable are children, the elderly, and pregnant women, who are bearing the brunt of the severe cold.

To combat the harsh conditions, residents in various parts of the district are resorting to open fires for warmth. Some local authorities are contributing by providing free firewood, as well as distributing blankets and other warm clothing.
