Front set up to empower disadvantaged women
Kathmandu, May 15:
Indigenous, Dalit and Madhesi women today formed a Disadvantaged Women’s Front for Inclusive Loktantra.
The Front includes Ranju Thakur and Sujata Dev as representatives of Madhesi women. Durga Sob represents Dalit women while Lucky Sherpa and Soma Rai represent women from the indigenous nationalities.
The front was formally declared today after a series of meetings and discussions.
According to Lucky Sherpa, the front was formed citing the need to create pressure on authorities to ensure proportionate representation of neglected women communities in the upcoming election to the Constituent Assembly and also while restructuring the state.
“We will put pressure for proportionate representation of women from various deprived groups — from the local level to the policy level,” Sherpa said.
The front is to hold a round table discussion on this issue on Thursday.
