Fuel crunch mars post-earthquake relief works

KATHMANDU: Japan on Wednesday commented that post-earthquake relief works in Nepal were badly affected due to shortage of daily essentials including fuel.

Issuing a press statement, the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu said the fuel shortage has prevented relief providers from effectively conducting their humanitarian activities in the affected areas.

Japan, however, said it would continue to actively support Nepal's reconstruction efforts.

"Japan is deeply concerned that the present shortage of essential materials, especially fuel and petroleum products, is increasingly impacting on the daily lives of all the people living in Nepal," read the statement.

"We sincerely hope that the current difficult situation in Nepal to be resolved peacefully and in a way to foster cooperation, as well as mutual trust and understanding among all the parties concerned."
