KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 21
Construction of Gautam Budhha International Airport in Bhairahawa has reached the final phase.
According to the Airport Construction Project, construction of physical infrastructure has almost completed and the airport is likely to come into operation within the next three months. The project so far reported around 95 per cent progress.
Fixing of technical equipment is awaited. It has been slightly delayed as technical human resources for the same need to arrive from abroad.
Available technical human resources have been working efficiently for the project.
According to Project Chief Prabesh Adhikari, import of equipment is almost over. "It will not take more than three months to fix equipment as two tech experts from South Korea have already arrived and two more from the US will be here within a couple of days," Adhikari added.
"Similarly, a technical team of around 15 people will be arriving from India and six will be coming from China to handle equipment fixing, which is expected to take place in one to one-and-a-halfmonths once the project welcomes its full team of experts."
The Covid-19 crisis hampered the project and if there had been no crisis, the airport would likely have come into operation now. The project has been listed as the government's national pride project.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal had earlier planned to bring it into operation by the beginning of 2021.
