JAJARKOT: Police in Jajarkot district have arrested a youth on the charge of raping a teenage girl while another one accused of raping the girl's teenage aunt has been absconding.

Police reportedly arrested 33-year-old Sabin Chand of Bohara, Bheri Municipality-4 for raping a 13-year-old ninth-grader, a resident of Bheri Municipality-2 in the district on Wednesday night. Police are also looking for local Rupak Chand who allegedly raped the victim's 15-year-old aunt (mother's sister).

According to Chief of District Police Office, Jajarkot, Inspector Indrajeet Sunar, the accused youth was arrested from his residence last night after the parents of the victim filed a written complaint that Chand had tried to seduce their daughter by promising to give her a mobile phone set, money and a watch. When the girl turned down the proposal, the youth allegedly threatened to kill her and took her to a local hotel where he repeatedly raped her for two days, the complaint states as shared by Inspector Sunar.

Police informed that another 15-year-old girl, who is the victim's aunt, was also raped by another youth by the name of Rupak Chand. The search is on-going to track the accused. Guardians of the victims have complained that local leaders, representatives and powerful figures are pressing them not to file any case against the accused, but to compromise. However, the police inspector said that the process was underway to file a rape case against accused.

The younger victim said that the incident occurred on the night of July 23 when she was accompanying her aunt to find a rented room in Khalanga Bazaar, not very far from their school. She said, she met a youth who promised to arrange a room for her aunt in the hotel at Shanti Chautara. Subsequently, the youth took her to the hotel, tried to seduced her, when failed, threatened to kill her and repeatedly raped her for two days, the younger victim added.

Moreover, the elder victim alleged that the absconding Rupak Chand raped her in another room of the hotel telling that he would marry her.

The elder victim's widowed mother along with her daughter and son-in-law has lamented the pressure from local leaders, representatives and powerful figures to compromise, and have demanded justice.
