Girl missing in Bagmati river found dead
Kathmandu, January 22:
The girl, who drowned in Bagmati river near Shantinagar yesterday, was found dead today, police said.
The police said that the girl has been identified as Ranina Rai, 8, of Bhojpur. The dead girl’s father Pahalsing Rai said he came to Kathmandu with his daughter all the way from Bhojpur yesterday to meet his younger brother at Shankhamul.
DSP Gorakh Bhandari at the Metropolitan Police Circle, New Baneshwor, said that police hired a bulldozer to find the body of the girl. “The bulldozer took out the body of the girl at around 4:50 pm today,” he said.
“Ranina went missing since yesterday afternoon from my kin’s residence at Shankhamul,” Rai said.
Bhandari said Rai had come to the police office yesterday to complain about the missing status of her daughter. “After the body was found, nobody came to claim it and I contacted Rai asking to see whether the girl was his daughter. And, he confirmed the body was his daughter’s,” he said.
