Good governance stressed for corruption control

Biratnagar, December 15:

Participants in a seminar on ‘’Role of Mass Media in Corruption Control’’ have stated that corruption can not be reduced until there is an improvement in governance system.

The seminar was organised by the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Morang chapter, in association the Pro-Public Civil Society against Corruption Project yesterday. On the occasion, participants said that since all the state policies are guided by politics, there is a need for improvement in the governance.

Suggesting the mediapersons to write about the incidents taking place in society only after making a deep study of the incidents and not just on the basis of hearsay, the participants underlined the need for collective efforts to improve governance system.

Member of the Press Council Nepal Yagya Prasad Sharma and Ajaya Yadav of Pro-Public, Biratnagar, presented separate concept papers on role of mass media in corruption control.

At the programme presided over by FNJ-Morang president Shiva Bahadur Karki, former mayor of Biratnagar Sub-Metropolitan City Ramesh Chandra Poudel, regional director of the National Human Rights Commission Subarna Karmacharya, chief of Women Rehabilitation Centre (WOREC), Biratnagar, Kamala Rai and editor of Udhghosh daily Mohan Bhandari, among others, spoke on various aspects of corruption.
