Gorkha at risk of landslides
DAMAULI: A number of villages in Gorkha are exposed to high risk of landslide with the onset of monsoon.
According to authorities, the ground had already developed cracks due to the earthquake and frequent aftershocks. Now, it has started caving in at some places, posing risk to the villages below.
“On the one hand, there is risk of landslide and on the other, the monsoon has created a great problem for those staying in tents after their houses were damaged,” Assistant Chief District Officer, Dipendra Poudel said, adding that families in places that are at high risk are being taken to safer places.
As per data of the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee, 83 villages in Gorkha are at risk of landslide. It has been learnt that some 40 to 50 families of Lapsibot are staying temporarily in Lapu and Kasigaun villages due to threat of landslide in their villages.
