Gorkha earns Rs 260 m from oranges in a year

GORKHA: Orange farmers in Gorkha district have earned Rs 260 million this year by selling oranges.

The amount is more by Rs 50 million compared to the last year.

It is said that production of more oranges, better production and increased price contributed to the farmers’ better earning.

The farmers in Tanglichok, Ghairung, Makaisingh, Phujel, Bakrang, Taple, Phinam, Nareshwor, Deurali, Chhoprak, Harmi and other areas have made good income from orange farming.

Senior Agricultural Development Officer Tirtha Kumar Shrestha said that orange farming is done in 1,023 hectares of land in the district.

Shrestha said that a kilo of orange was sold for Rs 40 in the district this year on an average.

The orange produced in the district is supplied to Pokhara, Chitwan, Kathmandu and other cities of the country.

The demand of oranges produced in Manakamana of the district is very high, it is said.
