GORKHA: An elderly man died after he was attacked by his villager with khurpa -- a grass digging tool with sharp blade and wooden handle -- in Gorkha district on Monday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Pitambar Nepali (60) of Mauwaswanra, Harmi VDC-9.

According to Gorkha District Police Office, local Jit Bahadur Bhandari (49) snatched the sharp weapon from Nepali's hand and started hacking him on his neck.

The preliminary investigation pointed to the dispute between the duo as the cause of the attack, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Birendra Thapa.

Nepali breathed his last while being rushed to a hospital.

Police have arrested Bhandari for further investigation.
