Gorkha Monument under construction

POKHARA: The under-construction Gorkha Monument has so far witnessed 20 per cent completion of its works.

The monument, along with a museum, is being constructed at Salmedanda in Fedikhola Rural Municipality of Syangja district in commemoration of 60,000 Gurkha soldiers who were killed during the first and second world wars.

Additionally, the area will also see the construction of Gorkha View Tower and ethnic cultural village.

Stretched over 300 ropanis of land, the structure will require an estimated construction cost of Rs nine billion. So far, British Gurkhas have raised Rs 900 million and Ministry of Urban Development of Nepal Government has provided Rs 500 million for the construction, informed Monument Construction Committee Chair Puran Dhoj Gurung.
