Neighbours collect fund to airlift woman for childbirth

GORKHA: A woman suffering labour pains for three days has been airlifted to Kathmandu from Gorkha, on Wednesday.

Aaitmaya Gurung (24) of Gumda-8 in the district was sent to the Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital of Kathmandu as she was having trouble in delivering the baby in local health facilities, informed a kin to Gurung.

She was airlifted on a chopper of Mountain Air by spending as much as Rs 130,000, for which her neighbours had contributed.

Her husband, Maila, is on his way to Kathmandu on foot to take care of the expectant mother.

Though the birthing service is available in the district headquarters, which could be reached via roadways, the jeep service is not available when needed, complain locals.

Lack of proper health services in the rural area has compelled the needy to take unnecessary loan for their treatment.
