A fresh controversy has erupted regarding government formation in Madhes over the appointment of the Chief Minister.
The offices of the provincial governor and the chief minister have been vandalized, while leaders and activists have burned tires in front of the Madhes complex.
Leaders and cadres of seven parties, including the Nepali Congress, from Madhes have vandalized the office of the Chief Minister and then the office of the Province Chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari.
LSP leader Jitendra Sonal, who was appointed as the Chief Minister under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution, had announced his resignation in the provincial assembly meeting on November 8 after it appeared that he would fail to clear the floor test
Sumitra Subedi Bhandari, the provincial governor, who was appointed from CPN-UML, appointed Saroj Kumar Yadav, the leader of the largest party (CPN-UML) in the provincial assembly, as the Chief Minister this morning under Article 168 (3) of the Constitution. Province governor Bhandari, who left her residence early in the morning to go to Kathmandu for treatment due to illness but reached the Panas Hotel in Bardibas Municipality-3 of Mahottari and administered the oath of office to Yadav.
After receiving information that newly appointed Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav will be visiting Madhes Complex, leaders and activists of the opposing parties are protesting burning tires in a bid to stop him.
There is also dissatisfaction within the CPN-UML, saying that there was no discussion within the party about the appointment of the Chief Minister.
However, a source close to Madhes 's cabinet told the Himalayan Times, "the fresh situation has erupted in Janakpur as Nepali Congress which during the time of Jitendra Sonal resignation supported UML but has now joined other political parties who are against the government formed, evoking 168 (3)."
