Kathmandu, May 26

The Nepali Congress, which is poised to form a new government as per an understanding reached with its coalition partner CPN-Maoist Centre, stated today that it would wait for one week to see if a consensus government could be formed.

NC leader and Minister for Urban Development Arjun Narsingh KC told THT that if a consensus government was not formed within a week, the NC would initiate the process to bring as many parties as possible in the government under its leadership. He added that CPN-MC had agreed to join the government under NC as a junior partner. Meanwhile, CPN-UML Secretary Pradip Gyawali told THT that his party had begun ‘initial discussion’ with ruling parties about the formation of next government.

He claimed that CPN-UML’s priority was not to form or join the new government, but to ensure that local, provincial and parliamentary polls were held by January 21 as per the constitution.
