‘Government’s voice is UCPN-M’s’
Chitwan, April 3
Minister for Home Affairs Shakti Basnet today admitted that the voice of the government meant the voice of the Unified CPN-Maoist.
Speaking at a press meet organised at Bharatpur Airport today by the Revolutionary Journalists Association in Chitwan, Home minister Basnet said that his party’s take was the take of the government, in the context of the party’s stand regarding the joint statement issued by the European Union and the Government of India a few days ago.
“As the support of the largest opposition Nepali Congress was a must for proper implementation of the newly promulgated constitution, we are of the opinion that a national consensus government has to be formed taking aboard the NC. Even today, our party has the same voice,” said Basnet. He also clarified that there was no meaning of the ongoing protest of Tarai-centric forces as most of their concerns had already been addressed. Their ill-intent has given a hard time to thousands of people across the country, he said.
“Most of the demands of the forces have already been addressed through amendment of the statute. In the case of provincial demarcation, we require to form a political mechanism,” he said.
Basnet claimed that the government had ensured smooth supply of daily essentials. “Import has increased to cent per cent,” he claimed.
