Integrated security plan under preparation, says minister at Gandaki security seminar
KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 15
Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal has said the government is fully committed to conducting fresh elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) on the announced date of March 5, 2026.
Inaugurating a regional-level security seminar for Gandaki Province in Pokhara on Monday, Minister Aryal said the government has prioritized managerial preparedness and an integrated security plan to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.
"The election schedule has already been announced and the polls will be held on March 5," he said, adding that the government was formed primarily to conduct the election and hand over leadership to a people-elected government.
The Home Minister said discussions are ongoing with political parties and other stakeholders to build trust and ensure a conducive election environment. He added that a targeted election security strategy is being developed and will be finalized after assessing security conditions across provinces and districts.
Referring to the aftermath of the Gen Z movement, Aryal said around 70 percent of prisoners who escaped during the September 8–9 unrest have returned, while efforts are underway to recover looted arms and normalize the security situation.
He also emphasized the role of provincial governments in successfully conducting the elections.
Security chiefs and representatives from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and Armed Police Force from all 11 districts of Gandaki Province are participating in the seminar. According to Joint Secretary Govinda Rijal of the Home Ministry, the event aims to formulate a provincial security strategy and action plan, with a focus on election security.
