KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 11
A government-appointed committee tasked with assessing the losses incurred during the Gen-Z movement and preparing plans for the reconstruction of public infrastructure has submitted its report to Prime Minister Sushila Karki.
The Committee Coordinator, Rabilal Pantha, who is also Secretary of the National Planning Commission, presented the executive summary of the report at Thursday's Council of Ministers meeting, according to the Prime Minister's Secretariat. The committee, operating under the coordination of the National Planning Commission, completed its assessment and submitted the report within 75 days.
According to the committee, a total of 262 local levels across 54 districts in all seven provinces suffered losses during the Gen-Z movement. The report recorded 20 fatalities on September 8, 37 on September 9, and an additional 20 deaths following the protests.
Furthermore, 429 people were reported injured, including 17 children under the age of 13.
The overall physical loss was estimated at NPR 84.45 billion. In addition, a total of 2,168 institutions and bodies were affected by the unrest.
The report noted that 2,671 buildings were damaged, resulting in a loss exceeding NPR 39.31 billion, while 12,659 vehicles were damaged, causing losses of NPR 12.93 billion.
The committee further assessed that the government and public sector suffered losses amounting to NPR 44.93 billion, the private sector incurred property losses of NPR 33.54 billion, and community and other sectors recorded losses of NPR 5.97 billion.
