Govt jittery on talks between parties, Maoists: Poudel

Nawalparasi, November 20:

General secretary of the Nepali Congress, Ramchandra Poudel, has said the present government is chary of any alliance between the Maoists and the seven-party front.

Poudel was here to address a regional meeting of the Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC), a sister organisation of his party at Parasi. The regional meeting of NTUC kicked off in Parasi today.

Poudel came down heavily on the government, saying that it did not want to see peace return to the country. Pointing out it was not imporatnt where talks were held, Poudel said the important thing was restoration of peace.

He added that since the present king did not seem in favour of democracy, it was time for people to unite against the monarchy. “I openly say that the government has introduced the new media ordinance just to control journalists’ rights,” said Poudel.
