Govt likely to get funds for HIV control plan

Kathmandu, December 23:

The government is most likely to get $ 6.7 million global fund for the second round of the AIDS Prevention, Care and Support Programme starting next year.

Dr Rajendra Panta, acting director at the National Centre for AIDS and STD Control (NCASC), said there had been a verbal agreement between the Global Fund and the government for the second round of the programme to be run in eight districts for two years. “There will be no financial problem for conducting the programme,” he said. “The proposal has already been forwarded to the Cabinet for approval.”

Tafique Rehman, Global Fund’s portfolio manager for Asia, this week held a series of meetings with government representatives, Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM), NGOs and partner agencies to discuss the situation of HIV, TB and Malaria.

The government has made all preparations for the monitoring and evaluation of AIDS prevention programmes. However, the Global Fund rejected its request for $29,034,173 for the sixth round of the programme.
