Govt sets terms of reference for Rayamajhi panel

Kathmandu, May 9:

The Judicial Commission to investigate the suppression of the pro-democracy movement, chaired by former Justice of the Supreme Court Krishna Jung Rayamajhi, today got terms of reference (TOR) from the government.

The Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet today gave the TOR to the commission to investigate, recommend, advice or suggest the government to take actions or punishment against anyone responsible for the killings and suppression of the agitators during the pro-democracy activities. According to a member of the commission, Harihar Birahi, the government has given two-month time frame to investigate the issues of rights violation, damage of lives and property and misuse of the state power and treasury. The commission will investigate such incidents occurring from February 1, 2005 till April 24, 2006.

“We will start our work from tomorrow after taking oath of office from chief Justice Dilip Kumar Paudel,” said Birahi.
