Govt staffer gets 1-year jail term
KATHMANDU: The Special Court today slapped a junior staff at the Ministry of Land Reforms and Management with one-year jail term on corruption charges.
A two member bench of Judges Gauri Bahadur Karki and Om Prakash Mishra slapped the sentence on Durga Bahadur Karki.
The bench convicted him of being involved in corruption when he
was at the Kathmandu District Administration Office. The bench
also imposed a fine of Rs 35, 36,000 as it was not justified to be from legitimate source.
The bench was responding to a corruption case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) accusing him of amassing Rs 1, 07, 00,000 despite
the justified Rs 67, 32,000. The anti-graft had charged him of distributing citizenship certificates to foreign
nationals.
The Special Court, however, said that Rs 32, 25,000 from his income could be justified but Rs 35, 36,000 was not.
