Govt to amend statute in three months: Yadav

Janakpurdham, April 28

Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Chair Upendra Yadav today claimed that the incumbent government would amend the constitution within three months.

Talking to mediapersons in Janakpur, Yadav held that the constitution had many drawbacks. “Since we have not accepted the constitution completely, its amendment is mandatory,” Yadav added. He argued that statute amendment was a must to guarantee rights of Madhesis, and indigenous and ethnic groups.

Yadav stated that complications seen in the statute would make it difficult for the government to function. He said that the country had failed to get a new government for three months after the election owing to weaknesses in the statute.

Yadav accused the central government of trying to weaken federalism. “We will withdraw our support to the government if it fails to amend the statute.”

Yadav also urged the government to keep local levels under the provincial government. Stating that federalism was the biggest accomplishment of Madhes agitation, Yadav warned of hitting the streets against efforts to weaken federalism.
