Govt to give continuity to Emergency, says Wagle

Minister for physical planning and works Chiranjivi Wagle said that the government would give continuity to Emergency declaration to safeguard multiparty democracy and constitutional monarchy as well as to boost the confidence of security forces.

Wagle while speaking at the face-to-face programme organised by the Reporters Club here on Tuesday said, “Government is getting successful in foiling the Maoists’ terrorist activities.”

“Government is compelled to impose Emergency since the Maoists broke peace negotiation unilaterally and involved in terrorist activities attacking police and army stations and destroying developmental infrastructures," he further added, “peace negotiations couldn’t be held with the Maoists until and unless they lay down arms. They are playing a trick with the government in the name of talks."

He noted that government would never hold talks with them until they apologise with the entire Nepalis and lay down arms because they have already deceived the government in the name of talks by accumulating weapons.

He further added that the common people need not fear the extension of Emergency, as the Emergency had no negative impact on the life of ordinary citizens.

Reacting to the queries of reporters, minister Wagle noted that the proposal of extending Emergency has been registered after the prime minister held talks with Nepali Congress (NC) leader Girija Prasad Koirala. At the same time, he expressed the confidence that the consolidated Nepali Congress would approve the proposal.

On the occasion, he said that the government is holding talks with CPN-UML on this issue, stating, “All parliamentary parties would approve the proposal without a little hesitation, however, there is the compulsion for all parties to approve the proposal.”
