GAIGHAT, JULY 4
Foreign Minister Narayan Khadka said his ministry had initiated a dialogue with India through the Indian embassy to stop the erosion by the Koshi River in Udayapur.
Khadka, accompanied by technicians from the Department of Irrigation, visited the areas eroded by Koshi at Belaka Municipality in Udayapur. Minister Khadka urged the locals to stay safe.
A large number of police personnel have been deployed after the Saptakoshi River changed its course and started eroding land.
"We are constructing dams of wires and bamboo to contain the flood water from eroding the land", said Mayor Ashok Karki.
Mayor Karki said floodwater would inundate Chiliya island, Srilanka island, Sisaili, Ramnagar, Bochi, Bhagalpur, and 1,300 houses would be completely displaced.
Meanwhile, a meeting of district disaster committee decided to put personnel of Police and Nepali Army on high alert at erosion-prone areas, said Udayapur CDO Birendra Kumar Yadav.
