Gulmi road accident: Two including former NC lawmaker killed, eight others injured

KATHMANDU: Two persons were killed and eight others were injured after the jeep they were travelling on veered off the road in Musikot Municipality-1 of Gulmi district today morning.

The deceased have been identified as former lawmaker of Nepali Congress, Rudramani Bhandari (60), a resident of Bastu area in Dhurkot Rural Municipality-5 and Askar BK (8) of Neta area in Malika Rural Municipality-1, both in Gulmi district.

Police have identified the injured as residents of Darling in Malika Rural Municipality-2 — Surya Bahadur Thapa (32), Kosila Thapa (26), Kirtima Thapa (3), Jenish Thapa (5), Narendra Shrestha (18) and driver Kamal Puri (36), and residents of Musikot Municipality-2 — Bhoj Bahadur Bhattarai (40) and Reema Bhattarai (38).

According to Information Officer at Gulmi District Police Office, Inspector Rabindra Bahadur Khadka, the jeep (Lu 1 Ja 1957) heading towards Butwal from Paudyamrai plunged about 100 metres, killing two passengers and injuring eight others including the driver, at Chihandanda, at around 9:00 am today.

A team of security personnel deployed from nearby Paudyamrai-based police post reached the incident site to rescue the road accident victims.

Of the injured, five passengers are receiving treatment at a local health post while three others who were said to be in critical condition have been referred to a hospital in Tamghas, Gulmi's Chief District Officer (CDO) Yadunath Paudel informed.

The cause of the fatal accident that occurred on the unpaved road is yet to be established, police informed.
