DAMAULI, MAY 9

Gandaki Province Chief Minister Prithivi Subba Gurung put in his papers this morning.

CM Gurung handed his resignation letter to Gandaki Province Governor Sita Poudel in accordance with article 169 1(A).

Issuing a press statement today, Speaker Chandi Prasad Aryal at the Office of the Province Governor notified that CM Gurung had put in his papers. In the press statement, Governor Poudel has asked the parties to form the next government within three days as per article 168(2) of Nepal's constitution. Earlier, Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Centre and Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal had registered a notrust motion against CM Gurung and the voting was scheduled to take place on the motion tomorrow.

CM Gurung, however, put in his papers a day before.

Gurung is infected with COVID-19, and he will not have been able to take part in the discussion slated on the no-trust motion due to the infection.

Gurung's government had lost majority support after the CPN-Maoist Centre and Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal withdrew their support to the government led by Gurung.
