Gutkha worth Rs 6.2 mln seized in Birgunj

BIRGUNJ: Police on Tuesday raided various gutkha factories and godowns in Birgunj and confiscated gutkha worth Rs 6.2 million.

A joint team of the Nepal Police and representatives of the District Administration Office carried out raids and seized various brands of gutkha.

Police confiscated gutkha worth around Rs 4.2 million from the godown of Sanjay Agrawal, operator of the Chawosati Marketing in Birgunj.

Similarly, police recovered tobacco and gutkha worth Rs 2 million from the Shivashakti Tobacco factory.

"We have raided only those factories and godowns which are manufacturing goods against the existing code," Anuj Bhandari, Assistant Chief District Officer of Parsa informed.

According Tobacco Control Act 2014, tobacco factories should compulsorily putĀ  pictorial health warnings on the cover of tobacco products.
