Hailstorm destroys crops in Tanahun
Damauli, May 17
Hailstorm dealt a serious blow to farmers of Tanahun as it destroyed crops and vegetables worth millions of rupees last evening.
Tanahun’s Byas Municipality was the worst-hit by the adverse weather condition.
According to farmers, heavy rain accompanied by hailstone laid waste to maize and vegetables cultivated in around 1,000 ropani land in Byas Municipality.
“The storm has completely destroyed crops and dashed our hopes of better income this year,” lamented Govind Rana, adding, “Some five dozen farmers in places like Tatenitar, Bote, Shera and Barbote are facing the brunt of the storm that has risen the spectre of a famine in the future.”
The rainstorm has also damaged rooftops of over a dozen houses. “The hail showers have made holes in the rooftops of zinc sheets,” said teacher Krishna Kumari Kumal of Sindhu Basic School.
